The power of Torah(baby saga part 2)
Sorry for not posting yesterday. By the time we got home I was simply too exhausted. The short of it is that we saw and unbelievable nes(miracle). When I first came home from the hospital the day before yesterday(in the midst of all of the bad news) I went immediately to speak with my rosh yeshiva and a couple of other big mekubalim. I don’t normally go in for segulot and such things, but as we were talking a case of pekuah nefesh… I decided to see what I could get.
The answer was universal. There is no need. The reason, from the moment we learned that the child would be a boy I began learning mila(so that I would be able to circumcise my own son). The Shulhan Arukh Y”D 160 says, “Is it is a positive commandment for the father to circumcise his own son, and this mitzvah is greater than all of the positive commandments.”
מצוה עשה לאב למול את בנו וגדולה מצוה זו משאר מצוות עשה
The Shakh and the Beit Hillel(and several other meforshim) state that this means that it is greater than all of the other positive commandments combined.
The Rabbanim and Mekubalim said that since it was the boy(even though as yet unborn) the caused me to undertake all of this learning, and since the Reishet Hokhma defines the essence of Torah Lishma as learning Torah to be able to keep it, all of the merit for all of the Torah learned belongs to the child. With all of that merit(equal to learning lishma all of the positive commandments) it is impossible for something to be wrong with the child.
So armed with that we went back tot he hospital yesterday. We took a friend of my wife’s along who is an EMT since her medical Hebrew is far better than mine. While she was with the doctor I learned hilkhot milah. At one point an older litvak was there with his wife, and was looking for something to read. As it turns out there is a shortage of Torah reading in the women’s clinic at the hospital. So I offered to learn with him. It quickly became apparent that he was by far and away a better learner than I and we had some great Iyyun. When my wife came back out, it was his wife’s turn to go in. He thanked me for ensuring that his time there wasn’t bittul Torah. It was then that I found out who it was. Rav Kamenetsky Shlit”a. What a merit!!!
So here is the nes. The baby turned on its own into the right position. So far not such a big deal. The amniotic fluid disappeared. The day before my wife was at 350ml, then she was under 200ml, well within normal range. Also her cervix was beginning to open naturally. Upon further checking(aside from being overdue) everything NOW is perfectly normal with the pregnancy. Though it is not over yet. We have to be back at the hospital on Sunday for another check to see what happens next as we are still overdue. Assuming that the baby isn’t born before than(please G-d not on shabbat).
Why don't you want your child born on shabbos?

Why don't you want your child born on shabbos?Because the father can't circumcise his own child on Shabbat.

Amazing. Hatzlacha rabbah on the final stretch. Btw, which R' Kamenetsky?
Btw, which R' KamenetskyYou know, I am not sure. I think Nosson.
Not to sound like a noob, but why can't the father circumcise his own child on Shabbat?
Really why Not?
Ultimately it is because the father’s sole intent is not believed to be the mitzvah, but to also “fix” his child. See Shakh Y”D 166.
